SUPPORTED INDEPENDENT LIVING (SIL)

What is supported independent living (SIL)?

SIL is an NDIS support in the Assistance with Daily Life support category.

It’s paid support, and it includes things like having someone to help with cooking meals, grocery shopping, cleaning, and help with personal care such as laundry, showering and dressing. It helps participants live as independently as possible and build their skills.

Who is SIL for?

Supported independent living is best suited to people with a disability who have higher support needs. Based on their needs participants may receive assistance throughout the day, seven days a week. It also includes overnight support.

It’s important to know that participants can get SIL if they live with other NDIS participants in a shared accommodation, but also if they live on their own. SIL is only one of the many support options. There might be other home and living supports more suitable for the participant.

Are you eligible for supported independent living?

If you are aged between 7 and 65, a local area coordinator as well as our support coordinators can help you to understand the NDIS, and help you with your application.

There are also residence and disability related requirements you need to meet. To find out more on eligibility, click here to find all requirements on the NDIS website.
